What we are hoping to achieve:
We want to encourage people to love where they live and improve the appearance of the village welcoming visitors and people passing through. This will also enhance the village for Thorpe in Bloom which is usually held annually.
Councillors agreed to see if they could install a new village sign. A quote has been received for a sign with solid oak post & frame, with integral full colour image/design to enhance the village for residents and visitors as well as people on their way through the village. Together with volunteers the Parish Council maintain the Parish such as to be a pleasant attractive part of the Borough for people to visit and use for recreation, walking is popular. The Village is also on National Cycle Route the Chesterfield Canal runs through the Parish. There are therefore many visitors who would see the proposed sign. The Borough regularly use photographs of the Village literature, in visitor brochures and yet we have no pictorial sign to be photographed.
What will our project benefit?
There are many visitors including cyclist and ramblers who would see the proposed sign. The Borough regularly use photographs of the Village literature, in visitor brochures and yet we have no pictorial sign to be photographed so the project will be of long term benefit to residents and to the wider community.
How we intend on spending any funds raised:
Following suggestions by residents councillors agreed to install a new village sign. The sign would be erected by the active Volunteer group with the cost of the materials involved met by the Parish Council, we are therefore partially funding.
Cost of sign £1340 plus vat Cost of erection £0 to be done by volunteers
