Our historic charity have recently been donated a 2 carriage Class 143 Diesel Multiple unit. This train is going to be located within our visitor centre where it will be converted in our ticket office (within cab of train), shop area including shelving, tea room and shop checkout along with a wheelchair turning area, seating booths and pram storage. All seating booths with incorporate a railway theme. An external wheelchair ramp will also need to be built to allow wheelchair access to the vehicles.
With our site being adjacent to Cycle Network Route 47 there is incredible scope for passing custom from the cycle way in the summer months to compliment our open day custom. The facilities will initially be managed by volunteer staff, however we eventually wish to have paid staff in place in order to maximise the hours that the facility can be open for the public to enjoy.
Our project actively encourages people of all abilities and skills to get involved with us and is a fantastic way of making new friends, becoming socially active, to improve employment prospects and to improve self-confidence.
Where possible, we will attempt to raise funds for the conversion through our own commercial activities including train rides and merchandise sales.
