Stanford Hall Community Farm
We are a group of volunteers working hard to bring food security to those that need it most. We live and breathe nature, community and food. When we started our work three years ago we had a boring field of grass. Now our 7 acre site is full to bursting with wildlife, vegetable beds, fruit trees, bird song and happy people determined to make the planet a better place to be.
We follow permaculture's three principles:
- Earth Care
- People Care
- Fair Share
We work with local schools, food banks and volunteers to grow vegetables so beautiful and nutritious they run rings around shop bought. Using organic no dig methods we make sure ours is the tastiest, healthiest, most soul satisfying food possible. We swap our fare for all sorts of things, can't pay? Thats okay, come and lend a hand instead, money isn't all, and we are keen to show that food and community champion money in the bank. Our off grid farm feeds 60 local families and three schools, we provide veg boxes to our members and a welcoming inclusive space to spend time in nature, whether that's relaxing in our sensory garden, learning a new skill on one of our workshop days, or making new friends on Open Farm Sunday (we do ours every week!)
To give even more to our local community and the groups who visit us we would love to offer proper home cooked food to the masses. Our ramshackle kitchen is in need of some major TLC. We will create a whole new outdoor cooking space complete with:
- an eco friendly wooden structure to keep our volunteers dry
- wood fired cob oven
- gas stove
- water boiler
- Sink with running hot and cold water
- Food storage locker
- Hygienic food prep area
- Pots and pans, utensils and equipment
This will allow us to cook, bake, and fry our way to culinary heaven. Cooking food for everyone we possibly can to enjoy and learn how food should taste. Veggies don't always get the praise they deserve on the taste front, but we know we can change that, our amazing volunteers can turn even the most humble cabbage into something delicious and exciting and the world needs to see it! By contributing to our project you will be helping us teach children how to love food, show families what to do to make veggies taste AMAZING, feed people who don't always have access to fresh local produce and give them the skills to make food taste great on a budget. By eating local, seasonal food, cooked from scratch we can save the planet and help our local community feel healthier and happier along the way.
