Sescot Community Radio Station
We did it
On 16th July 2020 we successfully raised £80 with 6 supporters in 42 days

We are raising money to upgrade our broadcasting equipment to allow us to provide community radio across South East Scottish communities.

 New stretch target

We would like to set up a second studio to allow training and work experience opportunities for local schools, colleges and universities. We would also like to buy a vehicle to allow us to broadcast in a mobile wat throughout the communities we support and at local events and fundraisers.

What is the need for your project in the community? How will your project improve local life?
It will be the lifeblood of the community provide a voice where there isn't one, promoting good causes, health and wellbeing and great music to everybody. We will provide company for those who are more vulnerable and susceptible to isolation, and help to support them through awareness of community events/groups and support networks.

What support do you have from the local community for your project?
We have 2 Facebook pages that are linked with the project, one which focuses on local community news and events and our own radio page. The communities we are looking to support have been instrumental in supporting us both through social media and at our independent fundraising events too.

Who will benefit from your project?
- Sescot Radio will aim to provide a comprehensive community radio station broadcasting service, freely promoting home-grown events, charities and fund raising for good causes. To provide opportunities for local schools, colleges, universities to use our services for work placements or as part of community-based placements or work experience and to assist with media studies coursework. We also wish to work collaboratively with a range of businesses within the areas we service and support.

Tell us more about your project and how it will benefit your community if you are successful.
This project was set up with community being at the heart of all we do. We want to engage in raising awareness of good causes and charitable events, we want to provide support for those struggling with mental health issues that need support and guidance, we want to work together with other organisations to tackle isolation across communities' not least in the elderly but the most vulnerable too. To do this we have a dedicated and skilled team of volunteers all who live in South East Scotland and many who have an influential part in their own communities too. Having a community station that doubles up as a community hub of sorts is truly unique and something we think will benefit all the communities we embrace, engage with and support.
