What is the need for your project in the community? How will your project improve local life?
The hall brings many social opportunities to the community by hosting various classes otherwise unobtainable due to the very poor bus service running through the village. Four buses per day, the last bus back from Inverness arriving at 1815. By holding classes such as kids & adult badminton, Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga, carpet bowls, fitness classes, Mother &Toddler group, local Councillor surgeries, company training, adult & children’s parties including a New Year Ceilidh.
What support do you have from the local community for your project?
Our community support us by attending fundraising events in the hall such as a New Year Ceilidh, Surprise Bingo, Has Culbokie Got Talent? We have run fund generating schemes such as Fill Your Boots, Plastic Fantastic, Raffles, a collection box in the local shop.
Who will benefit from your project?
The village of Culbokie (population approx. 1200) and surrounding area, the Black Isle (population of 10447 (2018)) north of Inverness.
Tell us more about your project and how it will benefit your community if you are successful.
Repairing the roof will allow us to keep this very important hub for our rural community running for at least another 50 years, accommodating the classes and gatherings detailed earlier.
The hall has also been SSE approved as an emergency resilience hub in case of power outage. Providing the village with a safe warm nerve center where an industrial generator can be connected when/if required. (A few years ago, we suffered a power cut which lasted over a week)
The current committee includes 5 members who have successfully looked after the best interests of the hall for over 12 years, showing dedication and perseverance!
Please give a breakdown of the costs of your project.
Estimated costing for the removal of existing roof tiles, framing, fiberboard etc is £5,280.
The amount estimated for the replacement roof covering is anywhere between £50K & £80K, a structural engineer & architect have given us estimated costings (until we can see under the tiles we will not know the extent of damage).
