 New stretch target

As an Independent Youth Organisation and Registered Charity, all of our staff and supporters are volunteers in the true sense of the word, therefore every penny we raise is spent on the Cadets in the way of activities, equipment etc., If we were lucky to reach more than our target we could purchase more Kayaks, Paddle Boards, an additional safety boat and also send our Staff and Cadets on Nationally Qualifying Courses.

Ledbury Maritime Cadets was founded in April 2014 and is affiliated to the Maritime Cadet Association which is the National Charity. It came about as a result of a lack of youth activities in the town due to a cut in funding for youth groups. The Towns Youth Club has since closed due to losing it's premises. As a long serving former Sea Cadet Officer, I knew the value that a Naval Youth Training Organisation could do for young people aged 9-18 years of age. The early years were quite hard, but a nucleus of very supportive parents helped build up good numbers and the chance to raise the money to buy the uniforms and equipment that the Unit needed to keep the interest of the cadets. A very good local Freemasons Lodge and Rotary Club also supported the Unit with generous grants. We were also very lucky to get a grant to buy our initial six kayaks which we have steadily built on. We are affiliated with a fairly local Sailing Club on the outskirts of Tewkesbury where we do our kayaking. As a small Market Town in the middle of England, ⁷the River Severn gives us our regular training sessions and to see the cadets grown in confidence and ability has been excellent. It has also helped up to keep our cadets through the Corona Pandemic and given them the opportunity to mix with their friends whilst following all the Government rules through this very awful time. We now want to expand our activities to include sailing, power boating and paddle boarding. We therefore need to invest in an out board motor for a dory we have, to act as a safety boat. We are expecting a good reliable motor to cost in the region of £2000-£3000 but the benefit and extra activities we will be able to do once we have acquired this will be tremendous. All of our staff and supporters are volunteers in the true sense of the word , which means every penny raised is spent on or for the benefit of the cadets, and everyone in the unit supports this project.
