Deeping St Nicholas is a rural village of around 850 homes in the South Lincolnshire fens, just west of Spalding. The population is around 1500 people in about 850 homes and there are also numerous outlying farms and other isolated dwellings, plus the nearby hamlets of Hop Pole and Tongue End. In common with much of Lincolnshire the village has a high proportion of elderly residents and single-person households.
With new developments planned and under construction it’s an expanding village, but it has no village hall or community centre. We have been promised a hall as part of a new housing development, but we need to equip the hall to meet the needs of the various user groups – tables and chairs, crockery and cutlery for the coffee mornings, soft play matting for the parent and toddler and mother and baby groups, dedicated signage for the Alzheimer’s group, a large screen TV and internet access equipment for the youth groups… and so on.
The Deeping St Nicholas Community Trust Committee was set up in 2017 by a group of volunteers to achieve this and in 2019 was granted charitable status.
